Where to stay in Alpe d’Huez

Alpe d’Huez is the biggest village within the Alpe d’Huez ski area. It is the main hub for all lifts, it has the best beginner pistes for learning on, and the town itself has the most facilities and things to do in the evening. Restaurants, bars, gym, swimming pool, ice rink, etc. There’s just more going on in Alpe d’Huez. It is also where I begin my lessons, at either the DMC or Bergers area (see picture below). So for sake of ease I advise people to stay in Alpe d’Huez. It is also possible to stay in Villard Reculas, OZ, Auris, or Vaujany, but I’m only going to recommend places in Alpe d’Huez itself. If you’ve booked lessons with me, but you’re staying in one of the other villages, let me know and we can figure out how to meet up in the mornings!

The good news is that so long as you are in Alpe d’Huez itself then getting to the slopes shouldn’t be a problem. Whilst some places are literally within walking distance to the slopes, the whole town is well serviced with 2 ‘through-town’ chairlifts and a free bus service, so no accommodation should be too much of a hassle. I will separate the accommodation options depending on location, and then you can decide what works best for you!

Best to stay for centre of town

The following accommodation options are located close to the high street in Alpe d’Huez. Here you have most of the restaurants, bars, shops, as well as the outdoor pool and ice rink. On the map above this is by the yellow circle I’ve drawn. To get to the slopes you can just jump on the through town lift to the DMC. The mid station for this lift is directly opposite to the first hotel I will recommend:

Hotel Grandes Rousses is a 4 star hotel in the center of town.

Cristal de l’Alpe is about 200m down the road and has a mix of traditional hotel rooms as well as chalet style self catering apartments.

This Royal Ours Blanc is more at the budget end, although maybe not in price, and has a page for the hotel here or the apartments within it here. This is at the lower end of the high street and therefore a bit further away from the lift.

BEST fOR CLOSE TO THE DMC

Chamois d’Or 5 star hotel is right at the foot of the pistes, next to the DMC lift, its a nice hotel, not much more to say!

BEST FOR THE BERGERS

Hotel Pic Blanc is just across the road from the Marmottes 1 lift.

BEST FOR NEW 5 STAR

Hotel Daria I Nor - the Alpe Express gondola literally passes through here, so getting across to the Bergers area couldn’t be easier in the mornings. Also you’re not too far from the high street in the evenings.

BEST FOR the old TOWN

Majestic Apartments are on the edge of town next to the Grand Sure chairlift. Ski in ski out provided you can do a blue run!

BEST OF THE REST!

Here you can see everything else in Alpe d’Huez. The above are not my only recommendations, and to be honest I don’t go in them and check them out. I’ve pretty much just advised based on location. Of course you can also look into AirBnb, but I find you often get a poor service at some of these places, so I’ll leave that up to you!
